Backstory / Local History Note
Before Fayetteville became known for Fort Bragg, downtown shops, and its deep military ties, it was an important inland trading hub along the Cape Fear River. This vintage travel image nods to that history with the phrase “North Carolina’s Farthest Inland Port” and a scene of Breeze’s Landing on the Cape Fear River.
The Market House, labeled here as “Ye Olde Market,” remains one of Fayetteville’s most recognizable historic landmarks and a symbol of the city’s long, complicated, and storied past.
